The Blades (1/5 to progress) narrowly avoided a giant-killing at the Racecourse Ground courtesy of John Egan’s dramatic leveller in the dying embers of what transpired to be a pulsating fourth round showdown last month.
The two side’s shared six goals in North Wales as Phil Parkinson’s side (10/3) extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to 21 matches, and whilst they further prolonged that to 22 with a crucial 2-1 league success over Altrincham at the weekend, surely stretching it to 23 will prove a task too much?
There is no doubt that Wrexham, who are famously owned by Hollywood duo Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, were the better side in the home encounter, registering 21 shots at the United goal – more than any other side to have managed against Paul Heckingbottom’s Championship high-flyers this season.
However, whilst the Blades managed to escape with their tail tucked between their legs, they will likely prove an entirely different proposition on home soil as they bid to set up a last 16 tie against Tottenham Hotspur.
United have been beaten just twice at Bramall Lane in their 14 fixtures there to date, and on the back of an 11 game unbeaten run – their last loss coming three months ago – the Yorkshiremen will be oozing confidence and belief.
Only runaway Championship leaders Burnley possess a more profitable home return than the Blades in the second-tier this term, although it’s worth mentioning that Wrexham have fared exceptionally well on the road in 2022/23 too, winning nine and drawing five of their expeditions across the English border.
That said, none of their National League opponents will have possessed the same quality and guile as Sheffield United, who are now priced at 1/10 to make a return to the Premier League come the end of the campaign.
Wrexham’s rear-guard are going to have to stand strong if they are to have a chance of teeing up a mouth-watering home clash with Spurs later this month, but doing that appears far easier said than done.
The Blades have scored 53 times already this season, and average over two goals per game at HQ. Frontman Oli McBurnie and the lively Senegalese attacker Ilian Ndiaye have contributed to 20 of those – each netting 10 times apiece.
Ndiaye has established himself as a real focal point in Heckingbottom’s side since bursting on to the scene at the start of last season, and while he started the reverse fixture on the bench, you sense that the United boss could include him from the off this time around as he looks to seal a safe passage through to the next round.
Ahead of kick-off, we’re offering a number of Bet Boosts on the big game, including the previously mentioned 7/1 shot as well as a number of markets on Wrexham producing a true Hollywood-style ending to their FA Cup fourth round double-header.
