NBA - US Sports: Season over for Memphis star Morant

Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant is doubtful for the remainder of the NBA play-offs due to a bone bruise in his right knee.

(This article was originally published on 11.05.2022)

Memphis take on Golden State Warriors in Game 5 of their second round series at the FedExForum on Wednesday and they will be eliminated if they lose as they trail 3-1.

The Grizzlies are 6/4 to win in the Money Line and the Warriors can be backed at 10/11 to win with a -4 handicap in the Point Spread.

Morant sat out Game 4 loss

The Grizzlies star missed Game 4 with a knee injury he sustained in the third meeting, after Dubs guard Jordan Poole appeared to pull his knee while attempting to grab the ball.

Morant has since had an MRI scan that has revealed the bone bruise and the team have announced he is doubtful for the remainder of the play-offs.

Memphis are facing the prospect of elimination on Wednesday if they lose at home to Golden State, however they did put in an excellent display without Morant last time out - leading for the majority of the encounter before the Warriors fought back in the fourth quarter to secure a narrow and crucial 101-98 win.

Grizzlies have coped without Morant

The Grizzlies did go 20-5 while Morant was injured in the regular season and will feel they still have a chance of fighting back against Golden State, but even if they do manage to progress it appears as if Morant's season is over.

The third-year guard picked up the Most Improved Player award and averaged 27.4 points, 6.7 assists and 5.7 rebounds-per-game during the regular season.

Morant averaged 38.3 points-per-game across his three appearances against Golden State and if this is the end of his postseason campaign he averaged 27.1 points, 9.8 assists, 8.0 rebounds across nine play-off outings.
