Serie A Saturday Accumulator: Lazio to overcome Atalanta in top-four contest

Three Serie A games are set to take place on Saturday with the battle to get into the top four and the relegation dogfight both intensifying as the season passes the halfway mark.

Currently, Napoli sit pretty at the top of the table and only a footballing disaster will stop Luciano Spalletti's side from claiming their first league title in just over 30 years.

Behind them, there is a massive scrap to finish second and for two other teams to complete next season's Champions League line up, with two of the contenders facing off on Saturday.

Lazio and Atalanta - fourth and fifth respectively - prepare to do battle at the Stadio Olimpico with both sides desperate to end the year playing Champions League football.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Roma are also in the hunt for a place in the top four with Jose Mourinho's men preparing to travel to Lecce, who are 14th in the table but did end a poor run of form with a win at Cremonese last week.

The third game sees Spezia travel to Empoli looking to climb away from the bottom three and end a run of three straight defeats.

We have predicted the outcome of all three matches, with our three-fold accumulator producing odds of almost 40/1.

Saturday three-fold acca:

Lazio to win to nil @ 10/3

Roma to win to nil @ 7/4

Empoli to win to nil @ 12/5

Odds were correct at time of writing and are subject to change.

Lazio looking good to get a result against Atalanta

The big Serie A game on Saturday definitely comes from the Stadio Olimpico as Lazio could look to pull away from Atalanta in the race for the top four.

With AC Milan facing Torino on Friday night, Lazio could begin the day outside the top four so it is imperative for both teams to try and get the win here.

This season, Lazio have been a very solid outfit, conceding only 17 goals in 21 games, which is a record only bettered by league leaders Napoli.

Maurizio Sarri's team are unbeaten in five matches although three of those games have ended level. Becoming slightly more ruthless is what is needed for them going forward to May.

Atalanta are, generally, a team whose games produce more goals and excitement with only Napoli and Inter Milan bettering their total of 39 goals this season.

Recent scorelines have backed up that viewpoint with a 3-3 draw at Juventus and a mesmeric 8-2 thumping of Salernitana in the past month.

However, they have lost five games this season, including last week's 1-0 defeat at Sassuolo and all five of those losses have come in their last 11 games.

The first was a 2-0 reversal at home to Lazio and they are 10/3 to win to nil here.

Roma should be too strong for Lecce

Roma currently sit third in the Serie A table and Jose Mourinho is looking good to guide his team to Champions League football for next season.

They have been classically solid under the Portuguese with just three of their 21 games this season seeing more than three goals scored.

Only Napoli have beaten them in their last eight fixtures and they have generally been strong away from home with the Napoli loss just one of two defeats on the road this season.

They go to a Lecce side who have struggled for any sort of form this season under Marco Baroni. However, they did earn a much-needed win last week, turning over bottom club Cremonese 2-0.

Lecce have proven this season they can be a capable outfit with home wins against Atalanta and Lazio to back that up.

However, Roma have not lost to any team currently lower than eighth in the table this season and are usually very reliable against the bottom half. Roma are 7/4 to win to nil.

Spezia set for more struggles

Currently sat 17th in the table, Spezia are hoping to end a losing streak of three games in order to climb away from the bottom three and prolong their three-year stay in the top flight.

Luca Gotti's side did look like they had turned a corner either side of the World Cup with a five-match unbeaten run, but they have since lost against Roma, Bologna, and Napoli to nil, plunging themselves back into trouble.

By contrast, Empoli have been in good form, although their weekend loss to Roma did bring their six-match unbeaten run to an end.

While Spezia defeated Empoli on the opening day of the season, this one looks more likely to be Empoli's day and, in a similar theme to the other games, this one could be on the straightforward side. They are 12/5 to win to nil.
