Aussie Rules: Port keep faith with Hinkley

Port Adelaide will keep faith with coach Ken Hinkley despite a disastrous start to the season and are backing him to turn things around.

Port are priced at 4/1 to finish in the top eight in the 2022 AFL campaign but that looks a tall order after they lost the opening five games of the season.

Hinkley gets support

The pressure has been building on the experienced Hinkley but the powers that be are in no doubt that he is the man to get the Power back on track.

They now face a huge game against fellow strugglers the West Coast Eagles on Saturday and club CEO Matthew Richardson has offered his support to Hinkley ahead of the game.

Sloane out for Adelaide

Richardson stopped short of guaranteeing Hinkley will keep his job for the year, but insists he has the full backing of the board heading in to the Eagles game.

"I just don't think there is any point in dealing with hypotheticals,” Richardson said.

"Our focus has got to be we are playing West Coast this weekend, we have just got to stay really focused on the things we can control.

"We're five games in and we haven't had the start that we want, but we have got great people and we will back them in to turn it around and that has to start this weekend."

Frustrating times

Richardson accepts that the Port members are frustrated with the start to the season but believes fortunes will turn.
"We understand it," he added. "At the end of the day, we haven't started the season as we would have expected. "We're really well led. We have got great faith in our people and we're going to back them in to turn it around.”
