Aussie Rules: Pies fear serious injury for Elliott

Collingwood fear they could be without Jamie Elliott for up to 12 weeks after the star forward suffered what looks to be a serious shoulder injury in the loss to West Coast.

The Pies are priced at 5/2 to make the top eight this season and the loss of Elliott for any length of time will come as a big setback.

Crunching tackle

Elliott left the field nursing his shoulder following a crunching tackle from West Coast’s Jamaine Jones in the final quarter at Marvel Stadium.

Speaking after the game Pies coach Craig McRae says the player looks to have damaged the AC joint and he is fearing the worst.

"He's going straight to hospital," McRae told reporters. "It could be quite a serious injury. If he needs an operation, it could be 12 weeks.

"It's not a great result for us. He's a pivotal part of what we do and we care deeply for him.

"It's massive, he's one of our forward leaders, an incredible pressure player. The thing you don't see is the way he's leading our young players. It does leave a hole."

Missed chances

It wrapped up a miserable afternoon for the Pies who slipped to a 13-point defeat and McRae says they paid the price for not taking their chances.

"We're just learning how to win – that's the reality of our group," McRae added. "We're putting ourselves in positions to be able to get the job done.

"It's another week where all the numbers look really good, but we just don't get the result."
