The John Sargent-trained Owen County has booked himself a route to Queensland for a crack at the J.J. Atkins Stakes after an impressive win at Randwick on Saturday.
Owen County is now priced at 10/1 to win the final juvenile Group 1 of the season in two weeks' time on June 11, the JJ Atkins Stakes, with Chris Waller's Political Debate available at 6/1 and Peter G Moody's charge Brereton on offer at 8/1.
Late inclusion
The son of Dundeel ran out a three-quarter length victor over Chris Waller's Sebring filly Amati in the Precise Air Handicap, only taking up an entry into Saturday's race after he was made an emergency for the BRC Sires' Produce Stakes in Brisbane. Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott's charge Golden Queen came home in third, six-and-a-half lengths behind the winner.
"Early doors, 'Sarge' always had the Derby earmarked but we will head to Brisbane first and the owners and breeders can have their dream up there," Sargent's stable representative, Campbell Ashby said.

"He has been a horse who was a bit tricky early doors. It took the boys a couple of phone calls to get them to cut the horse, but he is now repaying them."
Two wins from three
The runner-up to Owen County at Randwick, Amati, is priced at 16/1 to win the J.J. Atkins Stakes next month.
Owen County is now a winner of two races from three starts, having won at Kembla Grange on debut before finishing third in the Clarendon at Hawkesbury on his last start, finishing two lengths behind Burgunder with Basquiat only a neck behind the winner.
