NRL: Barrett upbeat after Broncos loss

Canterbury Bulldogs coach Trent Barrett is urging his players to stick to the process and they will soon start to get their rewards out on the pitch.

The Bulldogs are priced at 2/1 to finish in the top eight of the NRL in 2022 and expectations have been raised following some high-profile signings in the off-season.

Broncos defeat

Canterbury slipped to a 16-10 defeat against the Brisbane Broncos at Accor Stadium on Sunday night and now face a horror run of fixtures against Manly, Melbourne, Penrith and South Sydney.

Even so Barrett remains upbeat and says there were plenty of positives to take from the clash against the Broncos.

"As long as they keep playing for each other like they did tonight then eventually things will start going their way," Barrett said.

"The better they get they will start finding those last passes and you will see the tries we didn't get in the first half. We've just got to stick to the process and we'll get there."

Pangai Junior positive

One big plus to take out of the game was the performance of new boy Tevita Pangai Junior and Barrett is excited to see what the 117kg forward can bring to his side.

"We're light on edge back-rowers at the moment so he may spend some time there. We've still got Raymond Faitala-Mariner and Matty Doorey, who aren't available," Barrett added.

"But at the moment he's doing a job in the middle. We'll keep stretching his minutes out because he had a bit of a disrupted pre-season. But he did some good things tonight."
