Monday's Sport: Football and Horse Racing in the spotlight

Monday sees the sporting week start in quiet fashion, with Real Madrid topping the bill with their game at Rayo Vallecano, while the final FA Cup first round tie also takes place.

There are also three race meetings which can be followed on our Sports Live Streaming platform, while the T20 and the Rugby League World Cups both take a breather before knockout action later on in the week.

Off the field of play, there is also the draw for the last-16 of the Champions League taking place in Switzerland.

Real Madrid will be looking to secure all three points from their short trip to capital rivals Rayo Vallecano and retake the lead in La Liga from Barcelona.

The Catalans rose to the summit thanks to a 2-0 win at home to Almeria on Saturday evening, as club legend Gerard Pique played his final game at the Nou Camp.

That result left Real two points behind Barca and seeking to take inspiration from a 5-1 Champions League thrashing of Celtic last time out.

Prior to that result they had suffered a 3-2 European reverse at RB Leipzig and been held to a 1-1 draw at home to Girona in domestic action.

And Los Blancos head coach Carlo Ancelotti is set to be without two key players for the Madrid showdown, with midfielder Toni Kroos suspended and centre-back Antonio Rudiger doubtful due to injury.

Real lost at the home of Rayo in April 2019 as Adri Embarba scored the only goal of the game, but squeezed home 1-0 in this fixture last season - with Karim Benzema their matchwinner.

Three of their last four wins at the Vallecas have come by a single-goal margin and they are 11/4 to repeat that result on Monday evening.

The final tie of the FA Cup first round also take place on Monday evening, as Bracknell Town of Southern League Premier Division South play host to League One promotion hopefuls Ipswich Town.

The Robins have made it through to the first round of the FA Cup just once previously in their history, losing 4-0 at Lincoln City in the 2000/01 season.

They go into this game unbeaten in their last seven in all competitions, scoring 21 goals in that run.

The visitors, winners of the FA Cup in 1978, currently lie in second place in League One and boss Kieran McKenna is set to give some of his squad players a chance to impress as he prioritises league success.

Horse Racing: Two meetings open the new week

Racing on Monday comes from Kempton and the all-weather track at Wolverhampton.

Kempton gets the ball rolling with the opener on its seven-race card going off at 12:50 and the closer at the Surrey venue coming at 4:05.

Six races at Carlisle were due to begin with the 1:10, with the final contest of the day scheduled for 3:50, however, heavy rain in the last couple of days forced an abandonement following an early-morning inspection

Meanwhile, Wolverhampton plays host to a bumper nine-race offering which gets under way at 4:30 and draws to close exactly four hours later.
