Aussie Rules: McRae wants Pies to learn from loss

Collingwood coach Craig McRae says there is plenty work for his side to do after they slipped to a seven-point defeat against Brisbane on Thursday night.

The Pies have hopes of making the top eight and playing finals but McRae accepts they will need to improve on certain aspects of their game if they are to start climbing the ladder.

Strong start

Collingwood got the night off to a strong start against the Lions and were leading by 13 points after the first quarter.

However they then allowed Brisbane to boot six straight goals in the second quarter and could not edge their way back in front all night.

"I reckon we learnt a lot about ourselves tonight," McRae told reporters after the game. "We want to win, let's face it, honourable losses are one thing, but if you have 22 honourable losses you finish bottom.

"We're here to win and we didn't get the job done and we've got some work to do still."

Staying upbeat

Despite the loss McRae says his side are a work in progress and they will take plenty out of the defeat as they look to improve during the next few games and beyond.

"We walk away without the four points. Are we disappointed? Yes. Do we need to get better? Yes we do," he said.
"But I think we've learnt a lot about ourselves tonight about taking more risks when we're down.

"Let's be braver and be prepared to fail having a crack at it instead of being back on our haunches. That's our message."
