Aussie Rules: Martin to miss Eagles clash

The Richmond Tigers have confirmed Dustin Martin needs more time to return to fitness and he will not face the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium on Friday night.

The Tigers are priced at 21/20 to finish in the top eight but the game against the Eagles in the west will come too soon for Martin following a five-week break.

Break away from footy

Martin had been given some time away from the club on compassionate grounds following the death of his father.

The Tigers superstar is now back among the rest of the group and is training well but the clash against the Eagles is a no-go as he gets back up to speed.

Carlton ace out for months

"It is great to see Dustin back at training," Richmond general manager of football performance Tim Livingstone said.

"The boys are excited to have him back. He has got a couple of good football sessions in this week and is looking fit and strong.

"It has been a five-week break, so that is not the best preparation coming into this round (for Dustin). We will have a look again next week and see how he is progressing."

Duo ruled out

Meanwhile the Tigers have also confirmed Trent Cotchin and Robbie Tarrant will not play due to the travel and short turnaround in games.

"The five-day break for those older guys and the travel is not the best preparation both for this game (against West Coast) and the following v Collingwood," Livingstone added.
