LIV Golf Washington D.C. preview: DeChambeau offers value in D.C

The LIV Golf season continues this week with LIV Golf DC, where US PGA champion Brooks Koepka will be the centre of attention.

Brooks Koepka won a fifth Major title on Sunday, repelling Viktor Hovland and Scottie Scheffler at Oak Hill Country Club in New York, and the triumphant Floridian will hog the early spotlight in this week's LIV Golf event.

Koepka secured a two-shot success at Oak Hill to move past Rory McIlroy's Major-wins total and put himself on the tail of some all-time greats.

Arnold Palmer won seven Majors, while Tom Watson has eight to his name, so Koepka will feel he has the potential to match those two legends.

LIV Golf DC is obviously nowhere near as prestigious as the US PGA Championship, so Koepka may find it difficult to focus like he did last week.

Hearty celebrations followed on Monday and Tuesday, so Koepka seems likely to arrive at Trump National Washington DC feeling short of energy.

That said, LIV events are only three-round affairs, which start on a Friday, so Koepka has time to get his head together.

He has been drifting in the betting since the opening show on Monday and can be backed at 17/2

Victory at Trump National would make Koepka the first man to win three LIV titles.

Cameron Smith is 8/1 to win a second LIV title on Sunday.

Smith was delighted with the way he finished the US PGA, closing with a 65 for ninth place, and the Australian feels he has found his A-game for the summer.

Dustin Johnson won the last LIV event – in Tulsa the week before the US PGA – and he is 11/1 for LIV Golf DC.

Johnson started the US PGA well, but faded to 55th place after closing with three consecutive rounds of 74.

Chilean duo Joaquin Niemann and Mito Pereira are seeking a first LIV victory this week.

Talor Gooch has won two of the last three LIV events and he is 16/1 for this one.

Each-way terms of a quarter the odds, the first five places are available for LIV Golf DC, as well as alternative options, like a fifth the odds, the first eight places, in the Each Way Extra section.

LIV Golf DC course details

Trump National Washington DC is a 7,479-yard, par 72, with four par-fives, ten par-fours and four par-threes.

The links-style track, remodelled by Tommy Fazio along the Potomac River, was seen for the first time in the 2017 Senior PGA Championship. The greens are bentgrass and fast.

Bernhard Langer carded an 18-under-par total to win the Senior PGA at Trump National.

Sunny and pleasant conditions are forecast, with light to moderate breezes.

The field of 48 are competing for a $4m first prize.

Everyone tees off at the same time in a shotgun start at 18:15 (UK) on Friday.

Three to follow

Bryson DeChambeau

There has been lots of money for Bryson DeChambeau this week in the wake of his bold effort at the US PGA Championship and the former world number four is on offer at 16/1 for LIV DC.

It is easy to see why DeChambeau is proving such a popular choice.

He was seventh in LIV Tulsa, an encouraging return to form, before finishing fourth in elite company in the US PGA Championship.

DeChambeau and Koepka suffered some boos from the anti-LIV galleries when they played together in round three, but both men shrugged off the abuse and performed superbly.

DeChambeau will be keen to continue his resurgence.

Branden Grace

LIV Portland went the way of Branden Grace last season and the South African came close to a second LIV triumph in LIV Tulsa earlier this month.

He did well enough to qualify for a play-off and was beaten by a Dustin Johnson birdie.

Grace is 40/1 for LIV DC.

He could take a shine to a course which has been described as “linksy”.

Grace loves links golf and may fall in love with the venue.

Jason Kokrak

It may not be long before Jason Kokrak gets off the mark on LIV.

A series of solid efforts indicate that he is one good putting week away from going extremely close to a first title.

Kokrak is 28/1 to make LIV DC his breakthrough success.
