Melbourne City striker Mathew Leckie cannot wait to play in his first derby clash against Melbourne Victory after bagging a brace on Wednesday night.
City are priced at 5/4 to win the A-League grand final and are sitting pretty at the top of the ladder following a 4-0 rout against Sydney FC at AAMI Park.
Leckie scored two goals against Sydney to take his tally for the campaign to nine and he is now hoping to add to that in his first taste of a Melbourne derby clash.
The Socceroos ace has been forced to miss the last two and is chomping at the bit to be involved this weekend.
Talay desperate for stars to return
"I'm super excited," Leckie told Paramount Plus after the game. "I've unfortunately missed both games previous and it's a huge occasion.
"We're in a great spot. They've got games to catch up which if they get good results they'll be in a good spot as well.
"We just want to continue what we're doing. Ten goals in our last two games and a clean sheet, we're full of confidence."
City now have an eight-point lead at the top of the A-League ladder, but Western United who sit in second spot do have three games in hand.
Even so it is points in the bag that matter and City are in a great place. They do however have one concern after Aiden O’Neill picked up an ankle injury against Sydney and is a doubt for the derby clash.
