New Zealand Warriors star Shaun Johnson is urging the club to tie gun fullback Reece Walsh down to a new deal as soon as possible.
The Warriors are priced at 3/1 to make the top eight of the NRL this season and both Walsh and Johnson have a huge role to play.
Walsh is only 19 and is already showing that he is a potential star of the future. His performances are not going unnoticed and there is already talk of him being lured away.
The NRL’s latest new club the Dolphins have been heavily linked as they prepare to enter the competition for the start of the 2023 season.
Dolphins coach Wayne Bennett is keen to land a marquee signing and is known to be in the hunt for the likes of Kalyn Ponga and Cameron Munster.
However Walsh is also on his radar and the player has hinted that he would be tempted to return to Queensland. With that in mind Johnson is hoping the Warriors can lock him in to a new long-term deal.
“There’s been a lot of hype around him and I’m trying to add my value where I can for him,” Johnson said.
“I’ve walked similar shoes to what he’s going through right now. I don’t think I was as silky or as skilful as what he is, but that rise into first grade, it happened pretty quick as well, so I’m trying to help him understand the game in different areas.”
