Australian Racing: Ithadtobezou out to break maiden

There’s four meetings set to take place today with wet tracks forecast for the turf fixtures at Newcastle, Nowra and Rockhampton while there’s also a meeting on the synthetic surface at Ballarat.

Zou for maiden success

Ruinart is expected to jump as favourite for the fifth race at Newcastle, a 1300m maiden contest set to take place on a soft 6 surface.

John O’Shea’s charge has placed on four of his five starts to date including all three outings last spell in a run including when a close up second in a 1400m maiden at this venue in February.

Has the services of a top jockey in Hugh Bowman and while likely to prove hard to beat the race fit Ithadtobezou is taken to get the better of the daughter of Hallowed Crown.

Ithadtobezou delivered her best effort so far when finishing runner-up in an 1150m maiden on a soft 6 track at Randwick Kensington at the end of June and while she failed to make the frame when fifth over 1200m at Canterbury subsequently she was beaten just over two lengths having raced from off the pace.

Similar tactics are expected here which should mean a wide draw in ten is no issue and dropping to provincial level Joshua Parr’s mount is selected to break her maiden at the fourth time of asking.

Tycoon to triumph at Ballarat

The market suggests that the sixth at Ballarat Synthetic will be a shootout between Symon Wilde’s Miss Daniel and the Tony and Calvin McEvoy-trained Rose Tycoon.

The former showed a liking for this venue when finishing a close up second in an 1100m contest at this level on her penultimate start while she duly went one better over 1002m in a similar event on a soft 7 track at Donald earlier this month.

Harry Coffey keeps the ride here but preference is for her rival Rose Tycoon who broke her maiden over 1100m here when racing first up this spell and subsequently placed second in this grade over 1200m here next start.

Subsequently performed well at a higher level when runner-up at Bendigo and while she proved a disappointment at Murray Bridge earlier this month she looks up to putting that behind her with Dean Holland, on board at Bendigo up.

Poetic and Collett can score at Nowra

Top weight Ilzoomya looks to hold strong claims of registering a second career win in the final race on the Nowra card, a 1200m Benchmark 58 contest.

Anna Roper’s mount has shown good form on wet tracks in the past having placed on three of her four starts on the forecast heavy going while she has a good draw three off the rail, particularly in light of the tactics used recently including when racing prominently prior to fading into sixth over 1350m at Wyong last time.

Poetic Miss is selected to get the better of the Brad Widdup trainee however having put a slightly disappointing eighth in a highly competitive Class 2 metro event over 1200m at Rosehill last month behind her when finishing third in a 1350m contest at Wyong two weeks ago.

Alysha Collett, on board on that occasion takes the ride here and Poetic Miss is taken to overcome a wide draw in eight to deliver a second career success having performed well when placed at this venue in the past.
