NRL: Hasler relieved as Manly beat Warriors

Manly Sea Eagles coach Des Hasler believes the 44-12 win over the New Zealand Warriors on Saturday will give his side a big confidence boost following a tough run.

The Sea Eagles are pushing to make the top eight and play finals, and they currently sit in ninth spot on the ladder with six wins from 13 games.

Tough run

The Sea Eagles have been on a tough run over the last month or so. Heading into the game against the Warriors they had picked up just one win from the last six.

Just to make matters even worse they lost star fullback Tom Trbojevic for the rest of the season after he sustained a serious shoulder injury. It has been suggested the Sea Eagles cannot make the eight without him.

Manly were also missing influential skipper Daly Cherry-Evans who is away on State of Origin duty but they managed to get the job done. And a delighted Hasler says it will give the whole club a boost.

Confidence booster

"It has been a challenging month I guess so it was just good to get the win tonight,” Hasler told reporters after the game. “We realised it was important and it just puts us back on course a little bit, which is good. I feel like the effort around defence has been there, even though they had 28 against us last week.

“It has been our work and duty of care with the ball in hand that we haven't been good at but I thought tonight we were pretty good on both sides of the ball.

“We were finally able to build a bit of pressure and play a bit of field position. That will give the players and the team a lot of confidence going forward"
