Australian Football: Glory lose Calver to Korea

Perth Glory have cashed in on defender Aaron Calver who has joined a team in Korea with immediate effect after an undisclosed transfer fee was agreed.

Glory are priced at 10/3 to finish bottom of the A-League and have now lost another important player at a crucial stage in the A-League season.

Too good to turn down

Calver only arrived at Glory from Western United in the close season and went on to make 10 appearances. He was a solid performer for boss Richard Garcia and his departure is a setback.

However it would appear the money on offer was too good to turn down and Glory also did not want to stand in Calver's way.

The chance to play in Korea does not come around every day and Calver was keen to take it.

His departure does leave Glory short of another body though. Last weekend Brandon O'Neill picked up a season-ending shoulder injury and Glory's squad is looking light.

Great opportunity

"Aaron has been excellent for us on and off the pitch since arriving at the club," Garcia told reporters. "We are obviously disappointed to be losing him, particularly at this stage of the season, but it was an offer the club could not refuse at this time.

"The opportunity has come up for Aaron to fulfil his ambition to play overseas and he has decided to take it."

There is some good news for Glory though. Daniel Sturridge is making good progress following a groin injury and could return to the side that faces Brisbane Roar on Saturday.
