Aussie Rules: Franklin boots his 1000th career goal

Sydney Swans superstar Lance Franklin kicked his 1000th career goal against Geelong on Friday night to become just the sixth VFL/AFL player to reach the milestone.

The Swans are gunning to win the 2022 AFL grand final and Franklin still has a huge role to play in the push for silverware.

Franklin boots four

The milestone has been the talk of the town for some time and Franklin knew he needed to kick four goals against the Cats to make it.

He did just that with the match then stopped for 33 minutes to allow the Sydney fans to invade the pitch and celebrate the moment with their hero.

The Swans were well on their way to 107-77 win when the game was stopped before the players returned to play out the final five minutes.

Humble Franklin

"I've never seen that. I've never been a part of that. That was one of the most special moments you're going to get or that I can look back on," Swans coach John Longmire said.

"We're all privileged to, in my instance coach Lance, but also the players that he's played with over the years at both Sydney and Hawthorn.

"We've just been able to watch one of the all-time greats go about his business. He's played for Hawthorn and us and been a star at both clubs, and a star of the game. He's a very humble superstar. They're always the best types."

The win over Geelong also took the Swans to the top of the AFL ladder with two wins from two ahead of the round three clash with the Western Bulldogs.
