Greyhounds betting tips: Ozark to star at Monmore

The Racing Post's Dave Clark has given us his greyhound tips for the weekend, with Hawfield Ozark his one to watch at Monmore.

Early pace can win the big race this weekend!

The £10,000 Winter Derby Final at Monmore on Saturday night promises to be a belter and a real treat for fans.

With six railers lining up in the Winter Derby Final and very little separating the field on the clock, it is the Patrick Janssens-trained HAWFIELD OZARK who is the play with his fierce early speed.

A top-class tracker in Ireland, he landed the Irish Sprint Cup at Dundalk and has transferred his potent pace to four bends in the UK.

Winning over 400m at Romford before taking in Monmore and this competition, this son of Irish Derby champion Laughil Blake is a match for anything on the run to the corner and has a fast start in his locker.

Available at 7/2, he can catapult from the boxes and avoid trap two, 20/1 Betsys Bullet, moving off and make all the running in the white jacket of trap three.

Two-time Category One winner, 11/4 Hopes Paddington, is in the form of his life and beat Hawkfield Ozark in last week's semi-final, but is now drawn outside that rival in trap four.

Undefeated prospect Hesoneofourown heads the betting at 5/2 and has fared best of the six railers in the draw by bagging the inside box.

Defending champion Burnchurch Mick faces a horrendous draw in trap five, as a greyhound who dives inside he doesn't appeal at 7/1.

The fly in the ointment is Janssens' other runner out in trap six, 3/1 Coolavanny Shado, who possesses exceptional pace but emptied out coming home in worrying fashion last week.

It's a great final but a flashy exit from Hawkfield Ozark and his brutal early speed can put his rivals under pressure and he is fancied to make all in a top-class final.

Longer run to the corner will suit Olga

On the supporting card at Monmore on Saturday night is a fascinating Dual Distance Stayers Final over 684m.

Last week's heats were staged over 630m with a short run to the turn and this extended trip with a longer run to the corner can turn the formbook on its head.

Recent Golden Jacket finalist and local hope OLGA will appreciate the longer run-up and is fancied to assert into the corner and dominate throughout.

Pat Curtin's lady has performed brilliantly in success and defeat recently and stayed on powerfully last week.

She can reverse form with Low Pressure, who switches to trap one and may miss the break.

Classy four bend performer Candy Man rates a danger but will be vulnerable in the latter stages.

Gala night at Romford

Two huge competitions kick off on Friday night at Romford - both worth £10,000 to the winner.

The Golden Sprint over 400m is a showcase of early speed with some of the fastest greyhounds in the country on show, while the 575m Coronation Cup will require a blend of both speed and stamina.

Oxfordshire Gold Cup champion SWIFT ICONIC will appreciate the return to four bends and is worthy of a play in the outright market when prices are available for the Golden Sprint.

Many of the likely market principles are drawn together in heat four and punters must look elsewhere.

bet365 Puppy Oaks champion MINNIE BULLET will appeal to many in the Coronation Cup, but faces a tricky first-round draw stranded out in trap four in the opening qualifier.
