Aussie Rules: Dangerfield to face GWS

Geelong coach Chris Scott has confirmed Cats star midfielder Patrick Dangerfield is back fit and ready to return against Greater Western Sydney.

Geelong are priced at 39/50 to beat GWS in Canberra on Saturday and their chances have been given a huge boost with the news that Dangerfield is ready to return.

Calf issue

Dangerfield has been forced to sit out the last two games after suffering bleeding in his calf. Scott and his medical team were not willing to rush him back and he needed to tick all the boxes in training first.

He has now done that and Scott is delighted to have him back available.

Holmes setback for Cats

"It's clear that he's an important player in our team," Scott told reporters on Wednesday.

"We think he's ready to play whatever role he and we choose. If we thought that he had to come in and play limited minutes in the midfield or more forward because of his body, then that's a good cue that he's not quite right to perform."

Giants test

Following last week’s three-point loss against Fremantle, Geelong are in desperate need of a win.

But it will not be easy against a GWS side that had been struggling but smashed Adelaide in round seven and will gain confidence from it.

"The key to being a really good team is the capacity to play well against anyone anywhere," Scott added. "It just happens that GWS this week in Canberra looks to be a little bit of a different proposition to what it might have been a month or so ago."
