Aussie Rules: Cameron cool over contract talks

Greater Western Sydney coach Leon Cameron says he has no issues with the negotiations over a new contract being put on hold and is staying focused on the job in hand.

GWS are priced at 6/5 to make the AFL finals in 2022 but there is a question mark over Cameron’s future as he has yet to pen fresh terms.

Cameron off-contract

The 49-year-old will be off-contract at the end of the season but both Cameron and GWS agreed to put the talks on hold until the campaign is done.

That leaves the door open for the rumours to fly around, particularly if results do not go their way, but Cameron says he is comfortable with the situation.

"I've been dealing with that for a number of years,” Cameron said. "In this job you've got to be able to deal with what comes your way in terms of that scrutiny.

"It's a high-pressure job and one that I enjoy but by the time we get around to the weekend I'm fully focused on footy, so that doesn't bother me."

Fremantle test

GWS picked up their first win of the season last week when beating the Gold Coast Suns but face arguably a tougher test against Fremantle next up.

"Fremantle are clearly in really good form at 2-1 and had a really solid performance against the Eagles last week,” Cameron added.

"We're under no illusions about the magnitude of the game we play this weekend. It's huge for us and we need to apply that same sort of pressure and contested method."
