Aussie Rules: Bombers ace facing spell out

Essendon have been hit by the news midfielder Kyle Langford is facing up to 10 weeks on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring injury.

The Bombers are priced at 6/4 to finish in the top eight of the AFL and play finals but they have not got off to a great start.

Poor round-one loss

The Bombers were hammered by 66 points against Geelong in round one and not only that Langord picked up a hamstring injury in the opening minutes of the game.

The 25-year-old suffered the same injury in the same leg towards the end of last season and that cost him a place in the side that played finals.

Essendon were hoping that the player had avoided serious injury but unfortunately that is not the case and it will be at least 10 weeks until Langford is able to return to the pitch.

Surgery could be needed

The Bombers say there is a chance Langford could need surgery and they will explore all suitable options.

“Unfortunately for Kyle, the strain is on the same side as his previous injury and therefore we will take a conservative approach with his rehabilitation,” Essendon head of football Josh Mahoney said.

“Kyle is likely to be sidelined for approximately eight to 10 weeks but we will consult with a surgeon in the coming week to assess all options for recovery.

“We’re disappointed for Kyle who had completed a strong pre-season but we look forward to welcoming him back to the fold mid-season.”
