Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge says he feels sorry for his good friend Adam Simpson after smashing his West Coast Eagles side by 101 points on Saturday night.
The Bulldogs jumped up to eighth on the ladder following the win at Perth’s Optus Stadium and they will be looking to stay there at the very least and play finals again.
Crushing defeat
The same cannot be said for the Eagles who sit bottom of the ladder following a horror season that has seen the roster ripped apart through illness and injury.
Simpson’s men have just one win to their name but it is the crushing defeats that will be hurting them even more. The 161-60 loss against the Bulldogs being the latest.

Beveridge has sympathy for Simpson but has backed his good mate to turn things around and get them back on track.
"Simmo and I really bonded and he's a confidante, I consider him a friend. He's a man of great character and he's achieved a lot at this football club," Beveridge told reporters.
"The one thing about Simmo is he talks about unity but he acts it out. He unifies people and he's a great leader. I'm sure the Eagles will be fine and Adam will be instrumental in leading them out of the current challenges they have."
Simpson to battle on
Meanwhile Simpson says they will continue to battle on and he hopes to have some players back fit sooner rather than later.
"We’re getting some players back, but they’re not going to be fully flying, so we need to get them through WAFL, get them as fit as we can, and throw them in the deep end.,” he said.
