NRL: Bellamy future decision on hold

Craig Bellamy says Melbourne Storm have given him some extra time to decide whether or not he will carry on coaching the club in the 2023 NRL campaign.

The Storm are priced at 17/4 to win the 2022 NRL grand final and there is a chance this could be his last season in the coaches' box.

Huge milestone

Bellamy will be in charge of his 500th NRL game when the Storm face South Sydney on Thursday night and he is showing no signs of slowing down.

The Storm had set a deadline of 31st March for Bellamy to make up his mind about next season, but following a tough pre-season for one reason or another, that has been extended.

"I was supposed to make a decision but it's been a bit of a disrupted pre-season for me in a few ways and I haven't worked that out so the club has been good enough to give me a bit more time," Bellamy told reporters on Wednesday.

Director of coaching role

When Bellamy does decide to step away from coaching, he is expected to move into a director of coaching role with the Storm. And when his love of coaching starts to fade, that will be the time to make the switch.

"I don't want to be letting anybody down so when I lose some enthusiasm or I think I'm not being as thorough or as hard-working as I need to be, that's when it's time to go," Bellamy added. "I'm not sure what that reason will be but things change in your life.

"I'm a grand-father and it's one of the most enjoyable times but as soon as I feel I can't give it the time and effort that I've given it my whole career well then I know that's the time that I'm out."
