NRL: Back to the drawing board for the Titans

Titans coach Justin Holbrook says it is a case of going back to the drawing board after his Gold Coast side suffered a 30-4 defeat against the Cowboys on Saturday.

The Titans went in to the season with plenty of hope for their talented squad but have work to do to go on and make the top eight following a 2-5 start.

Cowboys shine

The Cowboys were in devastating form when blowing away the Titans and Holbrook admitted after the game he was at a loss to explain his side’s performance. They will go away and review it and hope to come up with some answers.

"No one's happy about it. We've got no answers at the moment," Holbrook told reporters after the game. "We're trying stuff, it's not working what we're changing and we go to go back to the drawing board and have a big week."

Holbrook did try to switch David Fifita to the centres but it did not pay off as he was outclassed by Valentine Holmes.

"We had to do it for injury but also wanted to test it out there," Holbrook said of the switch. "We've got to try things, we're not winning games. So we tried it but there's limited preparation there."

Drinkwater stars

Meanwhile Cowboys coach Todd Payten was buzzing and says he now has a selection headache after Scott Drinkwater starred at fullback.

Filling in for injured star Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, Drinkwater had a game to remember as he scored a try and had a hand in two others as the Cowboys romped to the win.

"It's a good headache to have," Payten told reporters."Scotty was strong tonight and he had some classy involvements."
