Aussie Rules: McStay injury worry for Lions

The Brisbane Lions are sweating on the fitness of Dan McStay after he injured his left ankle in the win over the West Coast Eagles on Saturday night.

The Lions will be pushing to win the 2022 AFL grand final and they are going well so far. However they are not being helped by injuries with McStay the latest to suffer.

Injury woes for Lions

McStay limped out of the action in the first quarter before the Lions went on to beat the Eagles by 75 points. Scans will now be needed to discover the full extent of the damage.

The injury comes just days after forward Joe Daniher was ruled out for up to six weeks with a shoulder injury. Much to the frustration of coach Chris Fagan.

"When it rains, it pours," Fagan said post-match. "If you are going to have injuries, you'd like them to be spread a little bit across the team and not have two of your best tall forwards out."

Fagan went on to admit the injury does not look good and McStay is facing a spell out.

Hipwood return

Fagan also admitted that Eric Hipwood could come straight back in to the side next week to fill the void. Hipwood has not played for 10 months after suffering a ruptured ACL.

"I'll be guided by our medical people," Fagan added. "The medical people do such a great job now with rehabbing players from injury.

"If they're really high-quality players you don't necessarily have to bring them back through the reserves. We'll see how we go.”
