THE PLAYERS Championship is one of the standout weeks on the golfing calendar, attracting perhaps the strongest field in golf.
As the Official Betting Operator of the PGA TOUR, we've been given exclusive access to the iconic TPC Sawgrass ahead of THE PLAYERS Championship.
The unofficial fifth major, named so due to the field it attracts, the prestige of the event, not to mention the prize money that comes with it, TPC Sawgrass plays host to the PGA TOUR’s marquee event.
Since the tournament’s move to the Stadium Course at Sawgrass in 1982, it’s also posed one of the toughest tests in golf.
While the Masters and PGA Championship tend to suit longer hitters, and the US Open usually suits more accurate golfers, THE PLAYERS is a true all-round test.
Winners over the last 15 years have included the likes of Rickie Fowler, Martin Kaymer, Sergio Garcia, Henrik Stenson and Cameron Smith – players who don’t necessarily excel in any one area, but also don’t have any glaring weaknesses.

THE PLAYERS Championship: List of players
“To be able to come out and see 144 of the best players in the world, competing on a course that doesn’t favour any style of play, it’s an incredible place to be,” said Executive Director of THE PLAYERS Championship, Jared Rice.
Todd Anderson, the Director of the PGA TOUR’s Performance Center, echoed those sentiments, saying: “When you look back at the players who’ve won here, it doesn’t really favour one type of player, you really have to have all parts of your game under control here,”
Since its inception back in 1974, THE PLAYERS has been won by the likes of Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, Ray Floyd, Greg Norman, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Rory McIlroy, who’ve won a combined 55 major championships.
“I love the comments from some of our great champions like Justin [Thomas] and Rory [McIlroy] and Jason Day, saying how this is on their list to consider their career accomplishments a success,” said Rice.
“It really shows the athletes on the PGA TOUR hold this in high regard and it’s an event they want to win.”
