Our resident boxing expert Rob Tebbutt has picked out an appealing 17/2 shot in Saturday night’s headline bout in London as Sunny Edwards puts his IBF flyweight title on the line against Andres Campos.
Edwards is one of the most talented and skilled fighters in the flyweight division, if not the world, and I expect him to win, and win well this weekend.
Yes, Campos is an unbeaten opponent but he is still a relatively unknown quantity who is undertaking his first bout outside of his home country, Chile.
For me, I envisage Campos really struggling to handle the far superior skillset of Edwards in London on Saturday night.
On the back foot, switch-hitting, angles and movement, Sunny will surely have too much in this fight, but the big question is, where can the betting value be found?
Well, it’s worth noting that since stopping Pedro Matos in April of 2019, Edwards’ last eight fights have all gone the distance, so the obvious shout here would be for the British fighter to win this fight ‘By Decision’ at 1/6.
But I know 1/6 isn’t very attractive, so I would be looking elsewhere here – potentially at Edwards breaking that run and stopping his opponent for the first time in nine fights, somewhere in the second half of the fight.
He showed a willingness to stand in the pocket at exchange punches in his most recent bout with Felix Alvarado, and I can foresee a situation arising whereby Campos does get frustrated and leave himself open after the sixth round.
This is his first bout anywhere near this level and I do expect Edwards to be superior to him in pretty much every way, so the 17/2 on offer for Edwards to prevail ‘Between Rounds 7 - 12’ has to be my value play in Saturday evening’s headliner.
If you fancy Edwards to get his South American opponent out of there before the final bell, then you can get 11/2 on him doing so in any round, but for me, I really like the value play of for Edwards to stop his opponent in the second half of the fight.
