We gauge the pre-fight opinions of some of the biggest names in boxing as Leigh Wood puts his WBA featherweight title on the line against two-time world champion Josh Warrington in one of the most hotly-anticipated all-British showdowns in recent years.
Leigh Wood v Josh Warrington Tips & Predictions
Leigh Wood v Josh Warrington Bet Boosts
I am approaching this fight in exactly the same manner that I have any other over the past five fights. Looking at Josh Warrington's weaknesses, how I can exploit them and making sure that I am not able to give him any momentum on the night. I know what I need to do. A lot of people think that Josh has had better days, but I disagree. October 7th will end in a Leigh Wood victory, and I am predicting a stoppage.
Leigh Wood to win by KO, TKO or Disqualification - 11/4
The build-up has been similar to how the build-up to my fight with Carl (Frampton) was a few years ago - shake each others hand, punch each others heads in and then have a drink after!
Josh Warrington to win by KO, TKO or Disqualification - 6/1
I think it is a 50/50 fight - it's very close to call. I am friends with both of them and it is going to be a barn-stormer of a fight. They both have great styles and it is going to be incredibly exciting. Unfortunately for me, I am away in Tenerife for a wedding on fight night so I am going to miss it, which I am not too happy about to be honest. I wish them both all of the best, but I really feel it is a toss of a coin fight - it is too close for me to call.
Draw or Technical Draw - 14/1
One thing that leigh Wood is very good at is getting to the edge of range and finding long-levers, powerful shots. But at the same time, if he gets to rounds seven or eight in a hard, tough fight then he can appear quite spent. Josh just keeps going and going, he is tough, rugged and there will probably be a few elbows flying in and it could get messy, which would be to his advantage at that point. I hate to say it because I like them both, but I am leaning towards leigh Wood, just n the back of their recent performances.
Leigh Wood To Win Fight - 4/9
If Josh Warrington fights like he has done in his last couple of fights then Leigh Wood will beat him comfortably, inside the distance. Since Leigh has picked up the world title he has just levelled up fight after fight. yes, he had that slip up against Mauricio Lara, but he came back and beat him with an exceptional performance. He is going to go in there with a lot of confidence.
Leigh Wood By KO, TKO or Disqualification - 3/1
I wouldn't be giving anything away by saying that Josh Warrington does rush in at times and Leigh has got to be there ready to meet him, because as we have all seen he is a devastating puncher. Exchanging punches on Leigh's terms, at the right time, is a really vulnerable position for Josh to be in.
Leigh Wood to win By Knockout - 12/1
Leigh Wood, if his heart is to be broken, and there is somebody out there to do that, then it is Josh Warrington, but Leigh has now matured so much as a fighter and truly believes in everything that he is capable of doing. Leigh is an 'Ingle-style' kind of fighter so I have got to back that every day of the week. Josh Warrington is not the fighter he was, but the fighter he still is is very, very dangerous. I'll be there in Sheffield on my home patch, but I am backing Leigh Wood to get the win.
