In 1998, Jaap Stam became the world's most expensive defender, moving to Manchester United in a move worth £10.6m.
To add to the pressure, he would be tasked with replacing United stalwart Gary Pallister, as the Red Devils looked to recapture the title they'd lost to Arsenal by a point the previous season.
Of course, United wouldn't just recapture the title; they'd win the FA Cup and the Champions League, completing a historic treble in Stam's first season.
Stam would go on to win the Premier League in each of his three seasons at Old Trafford, despite suffering a lengthy Achilles injury in 2001, leading to his departure from the club, in a move Sir Alex Ferguson eventually admitted was a mistake.
Stam would move to Lazio before joining Milan, where he'd compete in another Champions League final, albeit one he would lose as Liverpool came from 3-0 down to win on penalties.
In the first episode of Full Circle, Adam Catterall spoke to the former Manchester United man about his career, his greatest defensive partners, his love of rock music, and of course, that famous night in 1999.
