FA Cup Memories and Upsets: Wigan's 2013 triumph & Gerrard's wonderstrike

One of the world's most prestigious and historic competitions, the FA Cup captures the hearts and imagination of football fans across the globe.

From Wigan Athletic's historic triumph over Manchester City in 2013 to Steven Gerrard's sensational strike in the 2006 final, Sam Matterface and Steve Freeth have recalled their favourite memories and jaw-dropping upsets from the competition's 152-year history.

Both Sam and Steve have witnessed their fair share of FA Cup finals, with the latter present for the last fixture at the old Wembley when Chelsea defeated Aston Villa in 2000.

There's a special mention for Nkwankwo Kanu, who scored the only goal of the 2008 final to give Portsmouth their first FA Cup trophy in 69 years.

Rewinding back to 1990 and the FA Cup produced two sensational semi-finals, as Crystal Palace defeated Liverpool 4-3 before Second Division side Oldham Athletic forced Manchester United to a replay with a 3-3 draw at Old Trafford.

And there's been a plethora of lower league clubs that have earned their moment in the spotlight with a spectacular giantkilling. From Sutton United defeating Coventry City at Gander Green Lane in 1989 to Newport County upsetting Leicester City at Rodney Parade in 2019, you can always expect the unexpected in the FA Cup.
