bet365's boxing expert Rob Tebbutt provides his tips and insights as George Kambosos Jr bids to become a two-weight world champion against Britain's Maxi Hughes with the IBO lightweight belt on the line.
In Oklahoma this weekend we will see the return of the former undisputed lightweight champion of the world, George Kambosos, as he takes on Britain's Maxi Hughes over 12 rounds.
Kambosos will enter the ring off the back of two back-to-back losses against Devin Haney last year, coming into this fight against a man in Maxi Hughes who is in fine form having arguably enjoyed one of the best runs of any British fighter over the last couple of years.
Hughes was very active during the pandemic, picking up some good wins around British level, and then last time out against Kid Galahad, the former world featherweight champion.
I give Hughes a real chance in this fight. I think he's got the skills, he's crafty, a southpaw, and he comes in with a lot of confidence behind him.
With Kambosos, who knows where he is at? He had that glorious night against Teofimo Lopez a couple of years ago, but was soundly beaten twice by Devin Haney.
Kambosos is tight at the weight at 135lbs, and I think there is some upset potential here for a man in form like Maxi Hughes.
That's why I am looking at Hughes by Decision at 4/1 which is BOOSTED from 7/2 with bet365.
I like that play, as I think there's plenty of value on Hughes to win by Decision, but of course Kambosos has boxed at a much higher level and has had success at the top of the lightweight division making him the rightful favourite.
I do think Kambosos is quite shortly priced, especially by Decision at 4/6, and if I'm betting on Kambosos I'd be looking at the second half of the fight between Rounds 7-12. He does have that seasoned pedigree at the top level and a good engine on him.
So, if you fancy Kambosos to win between Rounds 7-12, you can get a massive 8/1 which is BOOSTED from 7/1 with bet365.
My money this week is on the underdog Maxi Hughes at 4/1 to win a Decision, boosted from 7/2.
I'll also be looking at George Kambosos in the second half of the fight, between Rounds 7-12, at 8/1.
But for me this weekend I'm backing the Brit and the underdog - Maxi Hughes to shock the world.
