The Wales Men's National Football Team played its first international match in 1876, making it one of the oldest national teams in the world.
While Wales has not achieved the same level of consistent success as some of the larger European nations, they have produced memorable moments and iconic players. Their most significant achievement was reaching the quarter-finals of the 1958 FIFA World Cup, one of only two appearances in the tournament to date, where they were narrowly defeated by eventual champions Brazil.
Despite having little to show for it, Wales have produced a number of World stars including John Charles, often regarded as Wales' greatest ever player, Gareth Bale and Ryan Giggs - among many others.
