Formed in 1908, the Denmark Men's National Football Team - often referred to as "The Danish Dynamite" - has a history punctuated by moments of brilliance and a surprise major tournament success.
Denmark's greatest achievement came in 1992 when they unexpectedly won the UEFA European Championship, defeating defending champions the Netherlands in the semi-finals and hosts Germany in the final, a triumph that remains one of the greatest underdog stories in football history. Their best performance at a FIFA World Cup saw them reach the quarter-finals in 1998, where they narrowly lost to eventual champions Brazil.
The Danes have produced a number of world stars including Michael Laudrup - who is widely considered one of the greatest Scandinavian footballers of all time - Peter Schmeichel - who is regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in history - and Allan Simonsen - the only Dane to ever win the illustrious Ballon d'Or.
