Claude Makélélé

Claude Makélélé, born in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 1973, is a French former professional footballer who played as a defensive midfielder. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest defensive midfielders of all time, pioneering the position known as "the Makélélé role".

Makélélé began his senior career at FC Nantes in 1991, where he played a central role in the club's success, helping them win the French Division 1 title in the 1994–95 season. He later moved to Real Madrid and was a key part of the side during his three-year stint in with the club, winning two La Liga titles, the UEFA Champions League, the Supercopa de España, the UEFA Super Cup, and the Intercontinental Cup.

He moved to Chelsea in 2003 and was a huge success, winning two Premier League titles (2004–05, 2005–06), two EFL League Cups (2005, 2007) and an FA Cup (2007) during his five-year spell in London. He concluded his playing career at Paris Saint-Germain, where he won the Coupe de France in 2010. Makélélé also represented France internationally, earning 71 caps and reaching the final of the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

Since retiring from playing, Makélélé has transitioned into coaching and technical roles, including spells as manager at Bastia and Eupen, and as an assistant manager at Paris Saint-Germain and Swansea City.
