Rob Tebbutt provides his best bets for Saturday night's domestic super-featherweight showdown between Zelfa Barrett and James Dickens as the pair get set to lock-horns on the undercard of Jack Catterall v Arnold Barboza Jr.
Zelfa Barrett and James ‘Jazza’ Dickens meet on the Jack Catterall v Arnold Barboza Jr undercard in a 10 round super-featherweight contest.
Manchester’s Barrett returns to action for the first time since his win over Jordan Gill, some 10 months ago, and will be looking to stake his claim for another world title opportunity with a win over Dickens of Liverpool.
The obvious factor to consider here is the size difference.
Barrett is a big career super-featherweight, while Dickens has campaigned for most of his career at super-bantamweight and featherweight.
Barrett has a long lead hand and good lateral movement, so the onus will be on Dickens to close the distance without taking too much in the way of return fire.
However, I do feel that the natural size difference will be a factor and, while he can be a frustrating watch, I think Barrett carries his power late in the fight and can score a stoppage.
He was being outboxed by Gill and in a previous outing against Eric Donovan, but his size and punching power ultimately got him out of jail - and I could see a similar scenario playing out on Saturday night.
Dickens is a cute, well-schooled boxer, so I wouldn’t be too surprised to see Barrett lose some of the early rounds, but I feel he’ll get to his man in the second half of the fight.
