Australian Football: Zadkovich keeps faith in young guns

Perth Glory boss Ruben Zadkovich says he is well aware of the enormity of the task in front of him but will keep faith in his young players between now and the end of the season.

Glory are sitting at the bottom of the A-League and are priced at 4/6 to end up with the wooden spoon.

Keeping the faith

Zadkovich has taken charge following the sacking of Richard Garcia and his job has not been helped by the fact he is missing a number of key players.

Already without the likes of Luke Bodnar and captain Brandon O’Neill, Zadkovich will be without star striker Bruno Fornaroli who is on international duty, while Osama Malik and Mitch Oxborrow are both suspended.

Even so Zadkovich refuses to be downbeat and says the opportunity is now there for some of the younger players to shine over the remaining games of the season.

Jets clash

Next up is a home clash with Newcastle Jets on Wednesday night and it will be a youthful side.

“We can expect changes in the squad [for Wednesday],” he told reporters. “I know the enormity of the task at hand with the squad I’ve got, what I’ve inherited and the position we’re in.

“I know how big the task is and I’m going to roll my sleeves up and keep putting faith in young guys and letting them put their best foot forward.

“We’re going to have to keep making changes, we’re going to have to be flexible and adapt and for me, that’s a challenge that I embrace. I’m not one to make excuses; I’m just going to focus on what we’ve got.”
