Youngest players to have played for Spain since 2000

We take a look at the top 10 youngest players to have played for Spain since 2000.

World Cup Qualification 2026

• Lamine Yamal (16 years 01 month 26 days)

Having made his debut for the Spain Men's Football Team in 2023, Lamine Yamal has gone from strength to strength.

He was a key player for Spain in their Euro 2024 victory and has announced himself as one of the world's best players. He's currently among the favourites to win the 2025 Ballon D'or.

• Pau Cubarsí (17 years 2 months)

Another La Masia graduate, Pau Cubarsí made his debut for FC Barcelona four days before his 17th birthday.

He went on to play for Spain just three months later after breaking through at the Catalonian side.

• Gavi (17 years 2 months 1 day)

Gavi, another Barcelona wonderkid, played for Spain at U15, U16 and U18 level, before becoming (at that time) Spain's youngest ever first team player when he made his debut in October 2021.

• Ansu Fati (17 years 10 months 3 days)

Much was expected on Ansu Fati when he became Barcelona's second youngest player of all time in 2019, leading to his debut for his country in September 2020.

After stalling at Barcelona, and an unsuccessful loan spell at Brighton and Hove Albion, Fati looks set to join Monaco as he looks to get his career back on track and add to his 10 Spain caps for the first time since 2023.

• Bojan Krkic (18 years 13 days)

Completing the La Masia top five, the original Barcelona wonderkid Bojan Krkic made his first and only appearance for Spain against Armenia in September 2008.

He experienced an up and down career in the years following, with notable stints at AS Roma and Stoke City, before officially retiring in 2023 at the age of 32.

• Pedri (18 years and 4 months)

Before a switch from Las Palmas to Barcelona in 2020, Pedri played for Spain at all youth levels. He officially made his debut for the senior side in 2021 against Greece.

Pedri has since played in two European Championships (winning in 2024), one World Cup and the 2020 Summer Olympics.

• Cesc Fàbregas (18 years 9 months 25 days)

Cesc Fàbregas joined Arsenal from FC Barcelona in 2003 at the age of 16. He was part of the Gunners team that went invincible in 2003/04 but didn't make a league appearance that year.

After impressing for the North London side, he made his debut for Spain in 2006 and went on to play 110 times for his country, scoring 15 goals in the process.

Fàbregas is widely regarded as one of football's great midfielders after stints at Arsenal, Barcelona, Chelsea and Monaco, before retiring to become Italian side Como's manager in 2023.

• Yéremy Pino (18 years 11 months 16 days)

A product of the Villareal academy, Yeremy Pino made his senior debut for the club in October 2020 after impressing then manager, Unai Emery, in training.

He has since gone on to play 132 times for the club and was rewarded with his senior Spain debut in October 2021 in the Nations League semi-final victory over Italy. He has played 15 times for Spain to date.

• Sergio Ramos (18 years 11 months 24 days)

One of the all time great centre backs, Sergio Ramos made his debut for Spain whilst still playing for Sevilla.

He moved to Real Madrid shortly after and went on to play 469 times for Los Blancos scoring 72 goals in the process including a goal in the UEFA Champions League final against Atletico Madrid.

In total Sergio Ramos won five La Liga titles, two Copa del Reys, four Supercopa de Españas, four UEFA Champions Leagues, three UEFA Super Cups, and four FIFA Club World Cups for Real Madrid, before stints at PSG and an emotional return to Sevilla.

Sergio Ramos played 180 times for Spain, retiring from his national team in 2021, scoring 23 times and winning two European Championships (2008 & 2012) and one FIFA World Cup (2010).

• Munir Al Haddadi (19 years 07 days)

A former Barcelona wonderkid, Munir Al Haddadi made his only appearance for Spain in September 2014 against Macedonia.

In 2021, after two previous failed attempts, Al Haddadi successfully changed his nationality to play for Morocco and has since played 11 times for the African nation.
