Wrexham v Notts County: Tips, predictions and odds

Form has deserted Wrexham and Notts County over recent weeks but they both remain in the League Two promotion hunt heading into their meeting at the Racecourse Ground on Saturday.

Wrexham snapped a four-game losing streak across league and cup with their midweek victory at bottom-of-the-table Sutton, a result that leaves them fourth in the standings, two points off the automatic promotion positions.

County occupy the final play-off spot heading into the weekend and they too will be looking to build on a midweek success - a 3-1 win at Newport - although that result in South Wales came off the back of seven defeats in their previous 11 games.

These two sides battled it out for the National League title last season with Wrexham, under their Hollywood ownership, pipping County to first place, but the Magpies had their own fairy-tale ending as they came up through the play-offs.

Now both sides are in the mix for back-to-back promotions and Saturday's contest could provide us with a better idea of which of the two are more likely to last the distance.

Wrexham v Notts County betting tips and predictions

Wrexham to win & both teams to score - 12/5

Wrexham are eight points better off than Notts County and hold a game in hand on their opponents, while they have won the last two meetings between the two sides, including last season's corresponding fixture that they edged 3-2, a result that went a long way to deciding the destination of the National League title.

A lot has been made of the club's Hollywood owners, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, who have invested heavily in improving Phil Parkinson's squad, and that appears to be having the desired effect, certainly on their own patch, as Wrexham boast the best home record in the division.

The Red Dragons are also the highest home scorers in League Two, netting at an average of nearly three goals-per-game, with 43 of their 57 total strikes coming in matches at the Racecourse Ground.

Notts County also have no problems finding the back of the net, their tally of 65 is only bettered by league leaders Stockport, but they also concede at an alarming rate - only four teams have let in more goals.

New head coach Stuart Maynard has seen his side register just one win and one clean-sheet from his four matches in charge and it could prove to be a familiar story on Saturday, with a Wrexham win and both teams to score offering plenty of value.

Elliot Lee anytime scorer - 21/10

Wrexham attacking midfielder Elliot Lee has happy memories of facing Notts County, as he scored the dramatic winner in last season's 3-2 success at the Racecourse Ground and was also on target in his side's 2-0 win at Meadow Lane earlier this term.

Lee is Wrexham's leading scorer with 14 goals, netting more than the likes of last season's 47-goal hero Paul Mullin and former Scotland international Steven Fletcher.

The 29-year-old, who is the son of former Newcastle and England midfielder Rob Lee, appears to be at the peak of his powers right now and after ending a relative goal drought with the winner at Sutton during the week, he could be the man to deliver for Wrexham this weekend.

Wrexham to score a penalty - 7/2

These two sides have become rivals on the pitch off the back of last season's promotion battle and that could add to the likelihood of a penalty being conceded.

Notts County certainly know all about giving spot kicks away, as they have conceded 11 in League Two this season, four more than any other team in the division.

The Magpies last conceded a penalty at Newport during the week and that spot kick was converted by Will Evans, which means nine of the 11 that County have given away have now been scored.

Wrexham have tucked away three of the four penalties they have received in the league this season - Mullin the only one to miss in November's loss to Accrington Stanley - but he and Wrexham may get another chance from 12 yards on Saturday.
