Great expectation had been placed on Phil Parkinson's team throughout his tenure, but they've excelled under the pressure, winning the National League title with a record points tally in 2023 before sealing automatic promotion from League Two last term.
Their tally of 88 points wasn't enough to win the League Two title as Stockport County held them off to become champions, but Wrexham nonetheless were a cut above the bulk of the division as they surged eight points clear of fourth-placed MK Dons.
Wrexham have been on an upward trajectory ever since celebrities Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney acquired the club in November 2020 and the Hollywood duo have made no secret of their ambition to reach the Premier League.
While certainly no easy task, a number of clubs before them have made the double jump from the National League to League One in two seasons and the challenge for the Welsh outfit now is to continue to assert themselves in the third tier.
Wrexham made significant investment in their playing staff in the summer transfer window as the allure of Wrexham's Hollywood ownership makes them an attractive proposition for talented players looking to climb the football pyramid and the Red Dragons flex the financial muscle to capture most players they set their sights on.
They were also ruthless with the release of club captain Luke Young and Ben Tozer, showing little room for sentiment as Parkinson worked to assemble a squad capable of challenging at the top end of League One.
The early signs are that they have done just that.
Wrexham have made an excellent start to life in League One and moved to the top of the table as a comfortable 3-0 win at home to Shrewsbury made it four wins and a draw from their opening five games.
