Rally Islas Canarias hosts the fifth round of the 2026 World Rally Championship and all eyes are on Takamoto Katsuta as he tops the standings for the first time in his career.
Consecutive victories in Kenya and Croatia have catapulted Katsuta to the WRC summit and the Japanese ace will head the field on the coastal roads and mountainous climbs that Gran Canaria has to offer.
Toyota have dominated this year with all four race victories going the way of the constructor after Oliver Solberg was victorious in Monte-Carlo and Elfyn Evans claimed the win in Sweden.
The aforementioned pairing prop up Katsuta in the standings, while Sami Pajari climbed into fourth after his second place in Croatia earlier this month. Adrien Fourmaux leads Hyundai's charge in fifth but the struggles of 2024 world champion Thierry Neuville showcase the performance deficit of the Korean manufacturer.
Toyota's grip of the field is futher enhanced by the return of nine-time world champion Sebastien Ogier, who skipped Rally Croatia as part of his reduced schedule. The Frenchman is the favourite to secure victory in Gran Canaria, marginally ahead of Oliver Solberg and Eflyn Evans.
Experienced operator Dani Sordo also makes his return to Rally1 and the Spaniard will be hoping his familiarity of the Las Palmas asphalt will yield a positive result for Hyundai.
