Defending champion Leonard Gates misses out meaning a new champion will be crowned, although that won't be Phil Taylor, who was originally scheduled to be featuring as part of the 16-player field.
Injury means 'The Power' won't be in attendance in Sunderland but there will still be a wealth of talent on show, with the likes of Richie Howson, Robert Thornton, Martin Adams and Glen Durrant all eyeing up the coveted crown.
