PDC stalwart Steve Beaton has been installed as favourite to reign supreme on his World Seniors Darts Championship debut this week.
'The Bronzed Adonis' famously featured in 23 successive PDC World Darts Championships prior to his retirement from the professional game last year, and will now turn his attentions to success on the seniors stage.
Beaton - who captured the BDO world title with a 6-3 success over Richie Burnett (one of four seeded players in this year's event) back in 1996 - will take on last year's runner-up Colin McGarry in the first round before a potential blockbuster last 16 showdown with Australia's Simon Whitlock.
Mervyn King is also being backed for a deep run in Essex as he bids to capture his first seniors title, as is the charismatic American star Leonard Gates, who tasted success on the big Alexandra Palace stage at the 2025 PDC World Darts Championship in December.
Reigning champion John Henderson, who also won the World Senior's Matchplay in York in October, will fancy his chances of defending his crown, having triumphed in this event 12 months ago, seeing off the likes of Robert Thornton, Andy Hamilton and McGarry en-route to victory.
