World Matchplay Darts: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Keith Deller MBE is backing Luke Humphries to add a new title to his collection this month with victory at the World Matchplay in Blackpool.

World Matchplay Darts - To Win Outright

Luke Humphries @ 3/1

This time last year, Luke Humphries hadn't captured a single major event title... how times have changed!

Twelve months on, 'Cool Hand' heads to Blackpool as the outright favourite and, for many, the man to beat.

Of course, there are any number of players you could back to go the distance at the Winter Gardens, such is the plethora of talent on the PDC circuit now, but I just can't look beyond the reigning world champion.

Luke's success at the World Championship capped off an incredible few months for him, on the back of triumphs at the World Grand Prix, Grand Slam of Darts and Players Championship Finals.

Of course, he's now also a World Cup winner after teaming up with Michael Smith to devastating effect out in Germany last month.

Luke will toe the oche in Blackpool in buoyant mood, and when Luke Humphries is comfortable and throwing care-free, he's nigh on impossible to beat.

He had a good run in this competition in 2023, reaching the final before bowing out 17-15 to Johnny Clayton, but he's a better player now than he was back then, and I just feel the long format of this event will play to his strengths.

He's a power-scorer, very straight with his throw and outstanding with his finishing - there's only a couple of players who can get near Luke, and they are going to have to be at 100 percent to have any chance against him.

With Luke Littler and Michael van Gerwen colliding in the first round, I am going to have to go with Luke Humphries to land the big one in Blackpool, and at 3/1, he carries plenty of appeal.

World Matchplay Darts - Most Tournament 180s

Luke Humphries @ 11/4

Again, there will be some stiff competition in this market, but with either Littler or MVG set to fall at the first hurdle, and Luke Humphries on the right side of the draw, I just fancy him to score the most maximums.

Michael Smith and one or two others will notch a decent amount over the course of the competition - providing they avoid any early upsets - but Luke, with his scoring power, always catches my eye in this market.

World Matchplay Darts - Forecast the Finalists

Luke Humphries & Rob Cross @ 18/1

I've got a really sneaky feeling that Rob Cross is going to produce some of his best darts in Blackpool, and I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest to see him come through his half of the draw.

That would mean, given the fact that I am tipping up Luke Humphries to win the competition, that it would be a final against 'Cool Hand' for the coveted title.

Yes, I know that Rob has only gone past the second round on one occasion in this event, and that was back in 2019 when he went on to win the event, but he seems to be peaking just in time for a crack at this crown.

He will take on the talented Gian van Veen in the first round, and if he can come through that, then his tail will be up, and when Rob has that confidence and arrogance to his throw, he's capable of beating anybody!

I also like the 5/2 on offer for Rob to win his quarter of the draw and the 13/2 price for him to reach the final.
