1983 World Darts Champion Keith Deller MBE shares his best bets for the 2025 World Darts Championship as Luke Humphries bids to defend his coveted Alexandra Palace crown.
Luke Humphries - To win the World Darts Championship @ 3/1
Gary Anderson - To Reach the Final @ 10/3
Luke Littler - 9-Dart Finish in the Tournament @ 5/1
Most Tournament 180s - Luke Humphries @ 7/2
Odds displayed above were correct at the time of writing and are subject to fluctuation.
For a lot of people, deciding who to back this year is like tossing a coin - will it be Luke Humphries or will it be Luke Littler.
Look, this is far from a two-horse race, but of course, you do have to lean towards one of those two players because they have, without doubt, been the standout performers this year.
For me though, I am backing Luke Humphries to make a successful defence of his 2024 title.
I just feel that the confidence within him will be flowing; he has won numerous events since landing the big one at Ally Pally 12 months ago, he boasts a very good recent record over Littler.
Of course, he saw him off in the final of the Players Championship Finals just a couple of weeks ago, and looked very good in doing so too.
I am expecting the pair to lock-horns in the semi-final early in the New Year, but, once again, I envisage Humphries having just a bit too much in his locker to win that match and subsequently then going on to win the competition for a second time.
The bottom half of the draw is wide-open but I have a feeling that Gary Anderson is going to carry his outstanding floor tournament form onto the grandest stage of them all.
He's been outstanding over the past 12 months and as we saw in the recent TV events, he is starting to really show the same form that propelled him to the summit of Planet Darts a few years ago.
He is oozing with confidence, he will relish the fact that he is on the opposite side of the draw to the likes of Luke Humphries and Luke Littler, and he is my bet to come through the bottom section and secure himself a sixth appearance in the World Darts Championship final.
As a consequence of this, why not take a look at the 9/1 on offer for a Humphries v Anderson final!
Pound-for-pound, Luke Littler is probably the best player on the planet right now, and whilst I am backing Luke Humphries to have his number this year, I do feel that 'The Nuke' will produce something incredibly special in North London.
I'm not sure I have seen a player ever have so many opportunities at nine-dart legs; it's a regular occurrence now - he's already hit a number of these this year alone!
He came within a whisker of adding to his ever-growing tally at both the Players Championship Finals and Grand Slam of Darts events, wiring double 12 on each occasion.
Littler is undoubtedly a player for the big stage and he loves the big occasion, which is why I feel the price of 5/1 for the Warrington man to his a perfect nine-dart leg at the 2025 World Darts Championship represents fantastic value.
Typically, the player who goes on to win the World Darts Championship is far more often than not the same player that lands the most tournament 180s.
I don't envisage that being any different this year, so given I am backing Luke Humphries to go back-to-back at Ally Pally, I will also be taking him to capture the Ballon d'Art - just as he did in 2024.
'Cool Hand' is a prolific 180-hitter, and providing he goes on to reach the final, then I'd be shocked if any other player was able to find a way to outscore him.
