News broke overnight that 'Wolves have sacked Rob Edwards' after just seven months at the club.
The news comes as a real shock, especially given Edwards' reported involvement on the signing of former Newcastle full-back Kieran Trippier and the return of Mexican centre forward Raul Jimenez this week.
Cesar Peixoto is set to succeed Edwards in the Molineux dugout ahead of the 2026/27 Championship season, with respected journalist Fabrizio Romano breaking the news that the West Midlands-based outfit have agreed a 'deal in principle to appoint' the 46-year-old Portuguese.
Edwards was unable to oversee a change in fortunes at Wolves upon his appointment in November 2025, but he did manage an upturn in form in the latter stages of the campaign that saw his side defeat Aston Villa and Liverpool and take a point off both Brentford and Sunderland.
He emphasised the need for a change in personnel in a passionate rant following a 3-0 defeat to Brighton in Gameweek 36 of the 2025/26 Premier League season.
Wolves have already recruited former top-flight duo Jimenez and Trippier in the early stages of the transfer window, and it's said that Edwards played a key part in both additions.
The club even released quotes from Edwards following Jimenez's return, where the manager said: “We’re hugely excited to bring Raul back to Wolves and also really pleased. I was at the club when he was here before so was able to watch him and see what he did for this football club.
“This is a signing because we really believe that he’s the right man to be able to help us achieve our aims, so we’re delighted to have him in.”
Less than 24 hours later, Edwards has been sacked and relatively unknown entity Peixoto is set to succeed him.
Peixoto was appointed manager of Portuguese side Gil Vicente in March of 2025, steering the club to a 13th-placed finish in the 2024/25 campaign.
It was the 2025/26 term in Liga Portugal where he arguably enjoyed his greatest season in management, guiding Gil Vicente to an impressive sixth-placed finish.
The Wolves job will mark his first outside of Portugal, having previously managed the likes of Pacos Ferreira and Moreirense, and he'll be keen to lead the club's charge back to the top-flight.
