Wolves Championship Promotion Odds: Gab Sutton hails Cesar Peixoto following Cardiff victory

Wolverhampton Wanderers are 11/10 to achieve Championship promotion after extending their unbeaten run to four games with a 3-0 win over Cardiff City.

After an inconsistent start to the 2026/27 campaign, winning two, drawing two and losing one of their first five Championship fixtures, Wolves appear to have found their feet under the stewardship of Cesar Peixoto.

A 1-0 defeat against a formidable Middlesbrough side wasn't a shameful result, while a 3-1 home loss against newly promoted Bolton Wanderers was far from ideal, but they're now four games without defeat after beating Brian Barry-Murphy's Cardiff in convincing 3-0 fashion.

EFL expert Gab Sutton -- who was at the Molineux Stadium for Wolves' victory over the Bluebirds -- provided his post-match reaction and reflects on Peixoto's start to life in the West Midlands.

"It was a really solid, clinical and ruthless performance from Wolves," Sutton said.

"They started the match strongly and built up a comfortable lead. We definitely saw the best of Wolves early on.

"I was a big fan of Hugo Bueno at left-back, especially with how he outmaneuvered the really good Ollie Tanner down Wolves' left-hand side. He looks a real upgrade on David Moller Wolfe, who was struggling at the start of the season.

“Ladislav Krejci, who scored the third header of the game, and Yerson Mosquera were fantastic at the back. I’m also a massive fan of Andre. I like the way he used his physicality to shrug off opponents and he also boasts a lovely passing range."

Peixoto was a relatively unknown figure upon his arrival, and there were unsurprising question marks surrounding his appointment given Wolves' improvement under Rob Edwards in the latter stages of the 2025/26 Premier League campaign.

The Portuguese manager has enjoyed a fruitful start with the promotion hopefuls, however, and Sutton believes he deserves more credit for his work so far.

The EFL pundit added: “I’m really impressed with Wolves because I think you can see a clear playing identity.

Cesar Peixoto has implemented a clear style of play that has been well received by the squad, and I don’t think that was a given after he was appointed.

“They’re very good at artificial transitions when they have the ball and equally comfortable in counter-attacking scenarios when they see less of the ball.

“I don’t think it was a given that Wolves would be third with 24 points after 13 games given the situation that he inherited. He took over one of the worst squads in top-flight history, came in quite late and didn’t have too much times to get his ideas across.

“We’ve seen Luton Town, Leicester City and, more recently, Burnley come down with Premier League parachute payments and really plummet, and that could easily have been Wolves with some of the off-field question marks and the perceived cultural toxicity that was certainly evident last season.

“And so I think we have to give Peixoto a lot of credit. I think the job that he’s doing has been underrated. They’ve got the advantage of a talented squad, but you’ve still got to put together a formula that gets the best out of these players, and so far he is doing just that.

“He’s very open in press conferences and seems to want to make connections with people. I like that about him, and I also think he’s a very stabilising presence for Wolverhampton Wanderers."

Wolves will be looking to make it five unbeaten when facing Bristol City in their penultimate game before the international break on Wednesday night. A trip to the Racecourse Ground follows, where out of form Wrexham await them.
