Willie Mullins Day 2 Cheltenham accumulator: 17/1 Cheltenham four-fold

Willie Mullins moved to within three of 100 Cheltenham Festival winners on Tuesday with Gaelic Warrior, State Man and Lossiemouth, and there's every chance he brings up the century on Wednesday.

Ladies' Day presents Mullins with some excellent opportunities to add to his total, with several runners in the Gallagher Novices' Hurdle and Champion Chase odds-on favourite El Fabiolo.

We take a look at some of Willie Mullins’ leading runners on day two of the Cheltenham Festival

The below four-fold accumulator at Cheltenham pays at odds of 17/1 at current prices.

(Any odds displayed are subject to fluctuation).

Willie Mullins Day 2 Cheltenham acca

1:30 - Gallagher Novices' Hurdle - Ballyburn - 2/5
2:10 - Brown Advisory Novices' Chase - Fact To File -
4/5
3:30 - Queen Mother Champion Chase - El Fabiolo - 3/10
5:30 - Champion Bumper - Jasmin De Vaux - 9/2

Gallagher Novices’ Hurdle - Ballyburn

Another race in which Mullins in the leading trainer (six wins), the newly named Gallagher Novices’ Hurdle will see Mullins looking to make it a hat-trick of wins after Sir Gerhard in 2022 and Impaire Et Passe in 2023.

It’s a very short price that the Closutton chief makes it a seventh win, currently lining up with five of the eight runners, including second favourite Ile Atlantique (9/2) and third favourite Predators Gold (9/1).

But it’s Ballyburn who’s expected to notch a first winner on Ladies’ Day.

With Mystical Power and Tullyhill taking on Tuesday’s Supreme Novices' Hurdle, Mullins eventually opted to declare Ballyburn in the Gallagher Novices’ Hurdle, and although five of his six runs have been over two miles, his sole two-and-a-half-mile outing saw him win by 25 lengths at Leopardstown over Christmas.

Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase

The second race on Wednesday gives us an early look at next year’s potential Gold Cup contenders and Mullins has another short-priced favourite.

Mullins has only one runner in the race, but it’s the 10/11 chance Fact To File.

Paul Nicholls looks to have the nearest challenger in 10/3 Stay Away Fay, though it’s Fact To File who’ll earn plenty of support on Wednesday.

While his stamina remains untested over three miles, his half-brothers Don Poli (RSA Chase, Lexus Chase) and Sire Du Berlais (Stayers’ Hurdle, Liverpool Hurdle twice) have combined for five long-distance Grade 1 wins.

Champion Chase - El Fabiolo

Although it’s not a race that’s historically been kind to the Mullins yard with the trainer not having his first success until 2022 with Energumene, one of Mullins’ best chances of the week comes in the Queen Mother Champion Chase with El Fabiolo.

What was supposed to be a straight shootout between Energumene and Shishkin in 2022 became a much simpler task for jockey Paul Townend when Nicky Henderson’s charge pulled up, and it was a similar story the following year when Edwardstone was caught on an off day as Energumene went back to back.

And things have opened up nicely for 2024 favourite El Fabiolo.

Racing fans were denied a sneak peek at the Champion Chase when frozen ground saw the Clarence House Chase - seemingly a two-horse race between Jonbon and El Fabiolo - postponed prompting El Fabiolo’s withdrawal

Fans will have to wait a little while longer to see the pair face off, following Jonbon's withdrawal from the race on Wednesday morning leaving a clear path for El Fabiolo to add to Mullins’ list of Festival winners.

Champion Bumper - Jasmin De Vaux

A race that Mullins has dominated like no other in recent years, the Champion Bumper has been won by the Irish trainer in three of the last four years, with Mullins the leading trainer in the contest with a massive 12 wins.

While this year's contest looks rather open, Mullins saddles nine horses, including favourite Jasmin De Vaux, who won his first and only bumper race by 15 lengths at Naas in January.
