After saddling I Am Maximus to glory in 2024, Willie Mullins is sending another typically strong team over to Aintree for the Grand National.
Emulating Tiger Roll would be some feat, but that is the aim for I Am Maximus as he tries to win a second Grand National in as many years.
He put the race to bed decisively after the Elbow last campaign and although things may have not gone to plan this season so far, connections are delighted with his preparation.
Mullins said, "I Am Maximus is very good. Paul (Townend) got down off him with a big smile on his face yesterday morning, so that means he’s back to where Paul wants him anyway."
A winner on his last two starts, Nick Rockett is no stranger to running big races in high-quality handicaps.
Aside from winning at Thyestes, he followed up a 7th placed finish in the Irish Grand National with a 3rd in the bet365 Gold Cup.
He defeated current Grand National favourite Intense Raffles in February, a run that should tee him up nicely for this.
Talented but inconsistent, Grangeclare West has shown patches of solid form throughout the season.
The pick of his runs came in the Irish Gold Cup where he finished second to Galopin Des Champs and two-and-a-half lengths in front of eventual Cheltenham Gold Cup winner, Inothewayurthinkin.
His Webster Cup performance was disappointing on his most recent outing but the inadequate trip could offer an explanation.
Now an 11-year-old, Appreciate It has been a great horse for connections, winning nine races including three Grade 1 victories.
He even got back in the winner's enclosure on his last start, drawing away from stablemate Classic Getaway up the Thurles run in.
The Grand National is a different proposition however, and with no wins at 3m+, he does have stamina to prove when he takes his chance in the Aintree showpiece.
Maybe the surprise jockey booking of the race, Jonathan Burke takes the ride on the 2024 bet365 Gold Cup winner.
With stamina in abundance, he also proved that he is versatile in terms of ground. His aforementioned bet365 Gold Cup success came on ground described as 'Good', whereas his Irish National fourth was officially ran on 'Heavy' going.
Last seen staying-on behind Nick Rockett and Intense Raffles, he is not to be underestimated.
Seventh in the 2024 renewal, Meetingofthewaters returns to the race off a 1lb higher mark than he ran off last season.
Things haven't quite gone to plan so far this campaign, beaten a combined 67 lengths on three starts, so he will have to show much improved form to go close at Aintree.
