Salford hit back after the break and briefly threatened an unlikely comeback, but Bevan French added a late try for Wigan to complete a fine victory.
The 2023 Super League winners and this season's Challenge Cup finalists are now level on points at the top of the table with St Helens and Warrington Wolves, but they have the cushion of a game in hand over their rivals.
As a result, Wigan Warriors are now odds-on for a record-extending 24th title, while Salford, who sit in sixth, can be backed at 100/1.
