A select list of snooker referees have been handed the reins for the coveted World Snooker Championship Final over the years, and 32-year-old Bulgairan official Desislava Bozhilova will become the latest to do so in May.
Desislava Bozhilova has established herself as one of the lead officials on the WST over the course of the past decade and will now fulfill her dream of taking charge of a World Snooker Championship final at this year's event.
The Bulgarian previously officiated the finals of the Masters and UK Championship in 2022 and has now been confirmed as the referee for the 2025 World Final, following in the footsteps of another high-profile female official, Michaela Tabb.
The 32-year-old passed her international refereeing exams in 2012 and took charge of her first ranking event final four years later at the 2016 Riga Masters, in Latvia, whilst she then became just the second female official - after Tabb - to take charge of a Triple Crown final at the 2022 Masters.
Her work on and around the green baize was further lauded later that year when she was named as the referee for the UK Championship final and has now been bestowed the greatest refereeing honour of them all, in being named as the official for the upcoming Crucible showpiece.
"I am really excited, it was an amazing feeling when I was given the news," Bozhilova told the WST's official website.
"It is what I have worked towards for many years, it has been my dream. It will be different to any other final because of the atmosphere at the Crucible.
"Since I started working in snooker I have learned everything from the more experienced referees. They give advice and tell us how to improve. There is a lot of team work and we support each other."
